Our team are excited to have been involved with Auckland Transport Agency in the building and coating of a selection of pedestrian bridges across the region including the Tirohanga Whānui Bridge.
According to the NZ Transport Agency, 'the striking red Tirohanga Whānui Bridge designed by Jasmax which means ‘panoramic view’ reconnects the community between the East Coast Bays and Albany' via Spencer Road and Corinthian Drive, as part of the Northern Corridor Improvements project.
This was the first project in Aotearoa completed by the Altex Coatings team on steel using a combination of Carboline and Flowcrete products. Since the Tirohanga Whānui Bridge completion in 2018, the team has been successfully working together on other bridge projects across Auckland.
Deckshield ED Rapide was chosen to coat the bridge deck thanks to its fast curing properties. The rapid curing MMA resin-based deck coating system ensured that the whole project was finished in a couple of days, fitting in with the tight schedule the main contractor was on.
Solid Floors NZ installed a total of 1,050m2 of Deckshield ED Rapide which will provide the client with the durability, chemical and abrasion resistance, anti-slip properties, waterproofing that is required by such an iconic and important piece of infrastructure.
An average of 10mPa was achieved when pull off tests were completed on the finished system. This exceeded what the client required, proving the Altex Coating combined solution was the ideal solution for this bridge.
