As a market leader in energy drinks and refreshing beverages, Frucor Suntory knew that the floor in its juice concentrate tanking area would have to provide multiple functionalities in order to maintain a safe, clean and reliable surface. In particular, the floor coating would have to deal with the usual impacts, traffic, cleaning and point loading inherent to a busy industrial site and also withstand exposure to spillages of drinks, ingredients and production by-products.
To achieve this, 400m2 of the heavy duty, antibacterial polyurethane resin floor system Flowfresh SR in Tile Red was applied. To ensure that the resin coating would bond effectively to the substrate, the underlying concrete was prepared by diamond grinding and any cracks were repaired with fiberglass and sealed. Additional joints in the substrate were cut and filled with PU sealant.
Pigment dispersion was used to colour the Flowfresh which, combined with the system’s sealer, created a vibrant, glossy red finish. Bauxite aggregate was incorporated within the polyurethane mix to create a highly robust floor with an anti-slip texture.
The seamless, impervious nature of Flowfresh SR means that it is quick and easy to clean. The coating was applied as coving around the bottom of the facility's equipment to ensure that no dirt, spillages or contaminants would get trapped between the tanks and the floor.
Every Flowfresh system has the antibacterial additive Polygiene® added into its resin matrix. This actively inhibits the growth of bacteria in contact with the floor, providing hygienic support in-between wash cycles.
The flooring project was completed in two weeks and Frucor Suntory was extremely impressed with the gloss finish, which really stood out compared to the matte floors in every other room onsite.
